DESTINATION OVERVIEW

  • Alagnak River (A-lag-nak): This prestigious river is located within the Katmai National Park and Preserve, with its headwaters in the surrounding mountains and draining into Bristol Bay. It is also known as the Branch River, for its seemingly endless braided river channels. Wading and fishing are made easy on the many small natural islands and gravel bars, which the river flow creates. The Alagnak has world-famous runs of all five species of Pacific Salmon, and is home to a host of resident fish. Crystal clear water allows for perfect stalking conditions, whilst slow runs and fast riffles are common place, with pools well suited to holding pods of staging Salmon, often 35+ lbs., when targeting the kings. With hatches occurring throughout the season, it is not rare to see a resident trout or grayling rise.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • After booking your flight to Anchorage (ANC) you will need to arrange a flight from Anchorage to the town of King Salmon (AKN). Only 2 airlines fly to King Salmon daily: Alaska Airlines and Pen Air. All guests are requested to be at the King Salmon airport by 10:00 am on the Sunday that they are scheduled to start their week at ATAL. This means that you will need to either arrive on the first flight in the morning, or arrive the night before and stay overnight in King Salmon at a local hotel.
  • Flights to ATAL start in the morning around 10:00 AM from King Salmon. A friendly local air charter service handles all flights to our lodge. The fee is $300 pp (but subject to change should prices be raised by the air charter service) for your roundtrip journey between King Salmon and our Lodge. All their pilots are highly experienced and their aircraft meet the strictest safety regulations On your departure day we strongly encourage our guests schedule a late afternoon flight after 3:00 pm out of King Salmon to Anchorage in order not to miss your connecting flights. As I’m sure you can imagine, weather can occasionally cause delays in Alaska. Any flights that do not fall within this timeframe must be approved by Alaska Trophy Adventures and may result in an air charter surcharge.
  • All of our guest cabins, including main lodge have spectacular views of the Alagnak river. The Dining Lodge is the centre piece of the camp. Its where we take our meals, share stories and socialize after a day on the river. With lounge sofas, a fireplace and a stunning view of the river and surrounding mountains, this building really is the town hall of our little village. Wooden walkways connect all our private guest cabins (8) to each other and lead down to our naturally sheltered dock where a fleet of jet boats are ready to access all the best fishing spots within minutes of the Lodge. The Swiss Chalet on the hill, is perfect for larger psarties accommodating up to 8 guests comfortably and in style, not to mention taking in the "Million Dollar View", where you can survey the rest of the property, river and mountains beyond. Alaska Trophy Adventures Lodge is situated on the remote banks of the wild and scenic Alagnak River and is the perfect wilderness fishing retreat. Boasting a world- famous run of all five species of pacific salmon, the Alagnak is also home to a host of resident fish, such as leopard rainbow trout, arctic char and grayling. This prestigious river is located within the Katmai National Park, with its headwaters in the surrounding mountains and drains into Bristol Bay. It is also famously known as "The Branch River" for its seemingly endless braids, where 10 miles of river can easily contain 30 miles of fishable waters. With such exclusive river access, you are sure not to be bothered by any crowds.
  • The Lodge itself is on 160 acres of prime river frontage in an iconic section of the Alagnak River known as the upper braids. The only access to the Lodge is via bush plane, landing on a private airstrip located on the property. Welcoming wooden cabins are equipped with running water, heating and power, that will guarantee you a comfortable stay. With an abundance of wildlife and stunning scenery, this trip is sure to live up to the image of Alaska that you have always dreamed of.
  • The lodge offers some of the finest cuisine in the Alaskan wilderness. Each morning begins with a hot breakfast. For lunch, you’ll choose from an array of meats, cheeses, and condiments, so that each person can construct their perfect deli sandwich or shore lunch if you prefer. Your guide will keep your sandwich, along with a variety of snacks and refreshments, in his cooler. Guides can also prepare shore lunches during the Salmon season, if this is your preference. Appetisers are served at 5:30 p.m. daily on the lodge’s deck where you can view the river. Dinner is served between 6:00 and 6:30 p.m. and dress is casual.
