Episode Summary

On this edition of the Fly-Fishing Journeys Podcast, we have a fun and lively conversation with Bob Shannon and Parker Wright of The Fly Rod Shop in Stowe, VT.  We dial in on both the DIY and guided fishing opportunities in the beautiful landscapes of Northern Vermont.

They share how what would typically be a winter, ski destination has become a year-round destination with tons of outdoor activities available. Coincidentally, I went to college in the area and taught skiing at Stowe and Smugglers Notch, so the conversation brought back lots of nostalgic memories.

We had a spirited chat about the trout creel limits and to be clear, as of Jan 1 of this year, Vermont Fish and Wildlife has reduced the trout creel limits to 8 in rivers and streams and 6 in lakes and ponds. At the recording of this conversation, it was at 12. I want to commend Bob for the time he served on the VF&W board in both his balanced approach and his advocacy for lowering the total creel limits. I am just glad that Vermont finally decided to lower that number. A strong case could be made for further protections for the Brook Trout as a wild, native fish over the Rainbows and Browns that are both non-native and stocked.
