FisheWear Leggings: For Adventures or on the Town

For an active, outdoor woman, a good pair of leggings can be hard to find. From constantly adjusting the waist band, drooping at the crotch, pilling, clammy leggings that don’t dry, thin leggings that are see through, the list goes on. Really, women are saints for spending countless dollars on these things. From high end to low end, and everything in between, I finally found a brand of leggings that I can wear without a struggle or working up a sweat trying to get them on.

The brand? FisheWear.

I was gifted my first pair of FisheWear leggings in 2013, and they are still around and thriving, which is more than I can say for much of my outdoor gear. I have worn my FisheWear leggings just about everywhere. From hiking and biking, wet wading, to the gym, to the store, in my waders, camping, hunting, traveling and just for a night out on the town. Since 2013, I have come to own about a dozen pairs of FisheWear leggings (don’t tell my husband), and honestly, I can’t recommend them enough.

Let’s start by talking about the first thing you see: the awesome designs. These aren’t your typical run of the mill, Lulu leggings you’re used to, with their solid colors, and simplistic tones. FisheWear ups the ante, by creating vibrant fish inspired designs on each and every legging. And they source their artwork from U.S. based artists, which is a bonus in my book. The designs feature some of your favorite fish with some awesome names like Basstacular, Beauty and the Bonefish, Kaleido King, Radical Red, and one of my favorites; Troutrageous Rainbow.

Okay, now the design. FisheWear leggings are built to move with the person wearing them, not against them. In my opinion, that begins at the waistband. If you have struggled with leggings before, you’re probably familiar with them slipping off the hips, and constant tugging at the band. That doesn’t happen with these. The leggings are made of a polyester/spandex blend, which means they also dry quick, and they are breathable. They’re made of a fancy Italian fabric with four-way stretch… Maybe that’s why they don’t slip off my hips all day? Another bonus: the leggings are SPF 50+ so they are perfect for your next flats trip, or mountain hike in the sun.

The only con I have found of these leggings over the years is that if you are heading out for a cold day on the water, like a spring steelheading trip, these leggings might be a bit light if worn alone. I like to layer mine up with an old Patagonia base layer that has now gone see through. The two layers together keep me snuggly warm during a day of frigid fishing. The material doesn’t stand up super well to things like Velcro, so I would suggest not getting them too close to your gravel guards or Velcro sleeves.

FisheWear leggings are the perfect leggings for outdoor enthusiasts! These leggings have gone on countless adventures with me, and I intend to bring them on countless more. They retail for about $110, but don’t let the price tag scare you away. As I said before, I’ve owned them for nearly 10 years, countless wash and dries, tumbles and falls, nights on the town, and more. They are great to simply throw on and go!

FisheWear was founded in 2015, by Linda Leary, in Anchorage Alaska. After a lifetime of fishing in ill-fitting clothing, Linda set out with a goal to create functional fishing fashion for women. FisheWear aims to empower women in the outdoors through inspiring and comfortable clothing to feel confident in, and the end goal is to change women’s outdoor wear forever.
