Iceland Fly Fishing Trip With Fly Fishing Journeys & Trout and Feather
Trip Itinerary
July 29th
- Arrive in Iceland. A shuttle will take you too Sunna guesthouse. https://sunna.is/
- You can spend the day relaxing from your flight and wandering the city.
- Accommodation: Twin rooms at Sunna Guesthouse
July 30
Your guides will pick you up at Sunna Guesthouse at 8am. Your guides will drive you to Lake Thingvallavatn(approx drive time 45min).
The group will split up at the lake and you’ll fish a combination of:
- Villingavatnsárós
- Villingavatn
- Kárastaðir
- Kaldárhöfði
- For Ice Age Brown Trout and Arctic Char
- After fishing your guides will take you to Hotel Grímsborgir for overnight accommodations

July 31st
Breakfast at the hotel between 7 and 9am You guides will pick you up at 9am, you’ll head out in pairs of two with your guide and fish.
The group will split up at the lake and you’ll fish a combination of:
- Villingavatnsárós
- Villingavatn
- Kárastaðir
- Kaldárhöfði
- For Ice Age Brown Trout and Arctic Char
Fish throughout the day. Lunch on the bank. After fishing your guides will take you to Hotel Grímsborgir for overnight accommodations

NOTE: For the lake Thingvallavatn fishing days we sometimes suggest changing from the
usual 9-6 fishing and fish the evenings as well as sometimes those are the best times. This
always depends on conditions
1 August
After breakfast at the hotel you will check out of Grímsborgir. Your guides will pick you up at 9am and drive you to the Highland Fishing Lodge. Approx drive time from Grímsborgir is 1.30min. The main rivers we will fish will be the Kaldakvísl river and the Tungnaá river. As well as some smaller tributaries, creeks, and if you want some of the reservoirs and mountain lakes in the area. Usual fishing hours are 9-6. Back to the lodge for dinner at 8 pm. After dinner, there are some more fishing options right outside the lodge in the reservoir and spring creeks feeding it. Some sightseeing in the area can also be arranged in the evenings.

2 August
- Breakfast at the lodge at 8am. At 9am you’ll head out in pairs of two with your guide and fish.
- The main rivers we will fish will be the Kaldakvísl river and the Tungnaá river. As well as some smaller tributaries, creeks, and if you want some of the reservoirs and mountain lakes in the area.
- Usual fishing hours are 9-6. Back to the lodge for dinner at 8 pm.

- Guides: 1 guide for every 2 anglers
3 August
Breakfast at the lodge at 8am. After breakfast, you’ll check out of the Highland Fishing Lodge and your guides will take you on one of the most spectacular drives in Iceland as we cross the Highlands on dirt tracks heading down to the south coast. Driving time is approx 2hours 30min but there are multiple optional stops are along the way:
- Landmannalaugar Hotsprings for some hiking or soaking in the hot springs
- Fishing in Volcano lake
- Fishing in Ófærur rivers.
- Early afternoon we will arrive in Tungufljót river and start fishing for Atlantic Salmon and Sea-Run Brown Trout
Accommodations: Hrífunes guesthouse, twin rooms.
August 4
Breakfast at the hotel between 7-9am. Your guides will pick you up at 9am and we will head out to fish Tungufljót river. Also a possibility that we will fish Vatnamót, Ófærur, Grenlæk, Skaftá-Ásgarð and Jónskvísl today based on condition. After fishing your guides will take you back to Hrífunes for dinner.
Accommodations: Hrífunes guesthouse.
August 5
Breakfast at the hotel between 7-9am. After breakfast we check out of the hotel. Those leaving on a flight this day will get an early morning shuttle to the airport. Those that are staying in Iceland for longer can squeeze in half days fishing on Tungufljót before being transported back to reykjavik.
Information
- If you drink alcohol we recommend buying it at the duty-free store at the airport as prices are much lower than in the rest of the country.
- The lodge has a basic selection of Wine and Beer for sale but guests are welcome to bring their own if preferred.
- If you have any food allergies, dietary requirements, or requests please notify your Fish Partner representative and we will do our best to accommodate them.
- All used fishing equipment needs to be sterilized by customs before entering the country. The price for this process varies based on the amount of gear your bringing but ranges between 30-70$.
- At the Highand Fishing lodge, we have a small fly shop with proven fly patterns as well as leaders, tippets, etc.
- Fish Partner can provide all the gear needed. If you fish to use some of our loaner roads, waders and boots please notify your Fish Partner representative beforehand so we can have it ready for you
