Aug 7, 2023

  • Arrive in Iceland. A shuttle will take you too Sunna guesthouse. https://sunna.is/
  • You can spend the day relaxing from your flight and enjoying the great walking city of Reykjavik. 
  • We will work with you on setting up either full day or half day tours if you would like to experience some of the cool tourist sites of Iceland.
  • Accommodation: Twin rooms at Sunna Guesthouse

After a nice breakfast at the Sunna Guesthouse you will be transported to the brand new and gorgeous Battle Hill Lodge where you will meet your guide and enjoy the day fishing.

The target species for this portion of the trip is Sea-Run Brown Trout with the possibility of Atlantic Salmon.

We will fish the following rivers:

  • Tungufljót river
    Tungufljót river in Skaftafell is one of the best known Sea trout rivers in Iceland and is most famous for the high average weight of fish caught, every year multiple Sea-Run Brown trout in the 20lbs range are caught with the average weight of the fish being between 5-10 pounds.
  • The Vatnamót River
    Vatnamót means “River Junction” in Icelandic. This place is often called the junction of junctions in Iceland. This is where
    the Fossaálar, Geirlandsá, and Hörgsá rivers meet the Mighty Skaftá.
  • The Fossálar River
    This river is extremely beautiful and has diverse pools. Part of the Fossalar river is on Unesco’s natural heritage list, so you
    can imagine the beauty of the landscape in this area.
  • The Geirlandsa River
    Believed to be the main spawning tributary of the Skaftá river, Often called the most beautiful seatrout river in Iceland.
    The rivers run in a volcanic area so you will both experience fishing in lava fields and black sands surrounded by glaciers.
    This area will allow you to fish with both double-handed rods and swing flies as well as nymphing through some extremely
    pretty pools with a single-handed rod.

You will wake up to one of the coolest views as the Battle Hill Lodge borders one of Iceland’s three UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The Brunahraun lava field is visible right outside your front door. It is protected and a part of a larger national park. Look a little further and you’ll notice “Vatnajökull,” the biggest glacier in Europe, with a large cliff called “Lómagnúpur” between the two. The area offers opportunities to experience the untamed majesty of the Icelandic highlands, picturesque mountains, thundering waterfalls, iconic canyons, as well as some of Iceland’s newest lava fields.

We will hunt for Sea-Run Brown Trout in the following rivers:

  • Tungufljót River
  • The Vatnamót River
  • The Fossálar River
  • The Geirlandsa River

You will enjoy a 3rd day of this beautiful part of Iceland fishing for some of the coolest fish around, Sea-Run Brown Trout with the possibility of Atlantic Salmon as well.

After a nice breakfast, you’ll check out of the Battle Hill Lodge.  Your guides will pick you up and take you on one of the most spectacular drives in Iceland as we cross the Highlands on dirt tracks and head up to the famous Highlands of Iceland. Driving time is approx. 2.5 hours but there are multiple optional stops are along the way:

  • Landmannalaugar Hotsprings for some hiking or soaking in the hot springs
  • Fishing in Volcano lake
  • Fishing in Ófærur rivers.
  • Early afternoon we will arrive in the Highlands and start fishing

The main rivers we will fish will be the Kaldakvísl river and the Tungnaá river. We will explore some smaller tributaries, creeks and if you want some of the reservoirs and mountain lakes in the area.

You wake up in the Highlands, have a nice breakfast and your guides will meet you at the lodge.

  • Usual fishing hours are 9-6. Back to the lodge for dinner at 8 pm.
  • Fishing the Kaldakvísl and the Tungnaá Rivers
  • You will fish in some of most scenic landscapes in the world
  • You will fish under waterfalls, in micro-canyons and through old rock lava fields
  • After dinner, there are some more fishing options right outside the lodge in the reservoir and spring creeks feeding it.
  • Some sightseeing in the area can also be arranged in the evenings.

We have a nice final breakfast at the lodge before we check out. We are transported to the airport for our flights home. 

Information

  • If you drink alcohol we recommend buying it at the duty-free store at the airport as prices are much lower than in the rest of the country.
  • The lodge has a basic selection of Wine and Beer for sale but guests are welcome to bring their own if preferred.
  • If you have any food allergies, dietary requirements, or requests please notify your Fish Partner representative and we will do our best to accommodate them.
  • All used fishing equipment needs to be sterilized by customs before entering the country. The price for this process varies based on the amount of gear your bringing but ranges between 30-70$.
  • At the Highand Fishing lodge, we have a small fly shop with proven fly patterns as well as leaders, tippets, etc.
  • Fish Partner can provide all the gear needed. If you fish to use some of our loaner roads, waders and boots please notify your Fish Partner representative beforehand so we can have it ready for you
