DESTINATION OVERVIEW

  • A fully escorted trip to Pancheshwar- the Mecca of Mahseer fishing tour in Uttarakhand, North India. Our team of fishing guides are well acquainted with the habits of the Mahseer and know the river like the back of their hands.
  • Pancheshwar is definitely the best spot for Mahseer fishing in India. However, there is a lot more that this quaint village has to offer. Located on the border with Nepal, this remote village is a well known destination for those with an interest in bird watching. A walk to the nearby villages offers the traveller a glimpse into the simple and unspoilt life of this area that has been almost forgotten by the rest of the world. An ancient temple, located at the confluence of the mighty Mahakali River and the Saryu River, is a delight for photographers.
  • The pre-monson months of March, April, May, June and then the post monsoon from mid September to end November are the prime season for the Golden Mahseer at Pancheshwar on the Saryu River.

Meals included: None

After an early breakfast the concierge will arrange your transfer to the airport. Your flight from Delhi will bring you to the town of Pantnagar. You will be met at the airport by the staff of The Himalayan Outback.

Pantnagar is based at the foothills of the lower Himalayan ranges in the state of Uttarakhand. This town is home to the first agricultural university of India & this area is well known for its farms which have been reclaimed from the jungles of the Terrai.

From the airport our vehicles will take you to our fishing camp at Pancheshwar.

You will be driving past Tanakpur, a border town on the Mahakali River, across which is Nepal.

From Tanakpur the drive begins uphill until finally the road descends down to the valley where the Saryu River flows at Pancheshwar, our destination. This journey will take approx. 5 1/2 hours.

On your arrival the camp manager will give an introductory briefing about the facility, the staff etc. in order to make your stay hassle free. Enjoy a welcome drink and settle into your tents.

Accommodation: THO Fishing Camp
Meals included: All meals

Post breakfast our fishing guides will ask you to bring out your entire fishing gear. Guests will be introduced to their guides, who will be accompanying the guests throughout their stay. They will then suggest the right combination of rod, reel & line depending on the condition of the river and the weather. Lures/flies will be selected for the day's fishing.

Each guest will be briefed on the section of river and the suggested time that they will be fishing. Our guides will be happy to accommodate those interested in fishing longer hours.

After a full day of fishing you can relax around the bonfire (depending on the weather) followed by dinner

Our chefs will be serving you with a range of cuisines during your stay - Indian, Continental, Italian & Chinese. If you are averse or allergic to any food, please do let us know in advance. Also inform us if you have a medical condition that we need to be aware of.

Accommodation: THO Fishing Camp
Meals included: All meals

The fishing camp is at a beautiful location - the immediate backdrop is a mountain covered with jungle. A variety of deer, monkeys, langurs and the occasional leopard may be spotted during your stay. In front of the camp is the Saryu River.
Across the river the tree covered mountain rises.
Each evening our Head Fishing Guide will discuss the plans/logistics for the next day's fishing with each guest.

Accommodation: THO Fishing Camp
Meals included: All meals

The confluence of the Saryu and Mahakali River is about 1 1/2 miles downriver from the camp. By rotation you will be fishing at this location during your stay.

There is an ancient temple across the confluence. We will be using an old suspension bridge to cross the Saryu River and visit this ancient temple where we will seek the blessings of the resident priest of this temple. Both the temple and the suspension bridge provide wonderful spots for those interested in photography. Each day you will continue to fish for the elusive & beautiful Mahseer.

A full day's fishing at the confluence and other spots will be the plan for the day. A packed lunch will be provided so that anglers can continue the hunt for the Mahseer without having to head back to the fishing camp for lunch - unless that is what they desire.

Accommodation: THO Fishing Camp
Meals included: All meals

Guests will continue fishing along the Saryu River - after consulting with each guest our guides will determine the section that each guest will be fishing. This could be a repeat of the previous day (if it was very productive) or a change of venue.

We also offer the opportunity to visit the local village school, should any guest be interested. This is an opportunity for guests to get a first hand experience of how the population in the remote corners of the country continue their lives far away from the fast paced cities.

Accommodation: THO Fishing Camp
