Established in 1994, National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest, single-day volunteer event for public lands that is held annually, on the fourth Saturday in September. Public lands are a part of the American identity, sustaining fish and wildlife habitat while providing outdoor recreation, clean air and water for everyone to enjoy.
Public lands provide us with exceptional and affordable recreation opportunities, large landscapes that are important to wildlife and fish habitat, abundant natural resources and give us a chance to experience the outdoors for future generations to come.
There are many ways for you to participate in National Public Lands Day, here are just a few:
- Visit a national park for free.
- Take part in a volunteer project. See the list of NPLD volunteer event.
- Take part in conservation efforts in your area by following organizations like Trout Unlimited, Backcountry Hunters and Anglers, and Captains for Cleanwater.
- Have fun and enjoy being outdoors by wetting a line with a friend!
- Share your favorite outdoor activity on social media channels using the hashtag #npld to help inspire others to enjoy all that public lands have to offer.
Whatever you choose to do, be sure to #RecreateResponsibly!
